Evidence Required
The evidence guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the performance criteria, required skills and knowledge, range statement and the Assessment Guidelines for the Training Package.
Overview of assessment
Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit | Evidence of the following is essential: selects, fits and maintains equipment independently and carries out safety checks to ensure effective working order negotiates obstacles and hazards while positioning and fastening holds to a desired level of difficulty. |
Context of and specific resources for assessment | Assessment must ensure participation in route setting activities on artificial surfaces that are of a sufficient duration to allow the participant to demonstrate competency and consistency of performance Assessment must also ensure access to: resources and information regarding route setting and climbing to accurately select equipment to position and fasten holds suitable artificial climbing sites that allow participant to Apply route setting skills route setting equipment such as harnesses, helmets, ascending and descending devices, ropes, holds and fasteners. |
Method of assessment | A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit: observation of selection and use of route setting equipment appropriate to the artificial pitch and level of difficulty oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of organisational policies and procedures to enable safe conduct of activities observation of safe participation and demonstration of route setting skills, such as positioning and fastening holds to a desired level of difficulty observation of care and maintenance of route setting equipment, such as cleaning of holds third-party reports from a supervisor detailing performance.
